What is Work-Based Learning?
The purpose of Work-Based Learning is to give students the opportunity to see how classroom instruction connects to the world of work and expose them to future career opportunities. At the high school level, the following are offered:
Career Days/Career Fairs. This is a career awareness/exploration event in which multiple industry participants assemble at one particular site to promote and share their respective occupations.
Job Shadows. This is a structured career activity in which students observe an employee at the work site to gain valuable career information. If a student has a particular interest, individual job shadows can be arranged as well.
Field Studies. Field studies are planned small or large group activities that provide opportunities for students to observe skills and jobs in a variety of settings at an actual workplace.
